How To Get A Red Wine Stain Out Of Upholstery:
Step 1: If the stain has just happened, blot up as much of the red wine as possible from the upholstery, being careful not to spread the stain any further.
Step 2: Use some white wine ( if available) to blot the red wine stain with a clean cloth, or sprinkle with salt or baking/bicarbonate soda. Vacuum-up the salt/baking soda when as much of the wine has been absorbed.
Step 3: Mix a solution of two cups of water and one tablespoon washing up liquid. Next, blot at the stain until the liquid is absorbed.
Step 4: Repeat steps 3 & 4 until the stains are removed from the upholstery.
Step 5: Now that the stain is removed you should use some cold water and a clean cloth and sponge the area to remove the cleaning solution, and then blot dry.
Helpful Hint: Be sure to get the upholstery only as wet as is necessary to remove the stain.
An alternative solution is to try some hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of washing-up liquid or household cleaner that has an oxidizing effect, e.g. ‘Vanish Gold Oxi-Action’.
How To Get A Red Wine Stain Out Of Carpet:
The steps, above, for red wine stain removal from upholstery, are the same for carpet. You can watch this video on how to remove a red wine stain from a carpet.
Advisory Note: Do not use hydrogen peroxide on natural fiber carpets e.g wool as it may cause bleach marks in this type of fiber.
